Updating Company Policies When Introducing an Updated Handbook
Given the climate of the economy and many employees being asked to complete more work for their current salary and potentially forgo annual increases, giving employees the tools to do their jobs as effectively and accurately as possible is even more critical today. With companies being forced to eliminate positions and thus asking their employees to take on greater responsibility, many companies are investing in updated handbooks, policies and process mapping HR functions to reduce potential employer liability and give employees valuable information and training in areas that might tend to get overlooked, like the ‘New Hire’ On-boarding Process and Termination Policy. Effective and up to date policies can take the ‘guess work’ out of managing employees – managers can effect change and make recommendations according to company policy such as the Attendance Policy or Progressive Discipline Policy. Empower managers through effective policies so they understand how to handle problems (remove the ‘I don’t know’ answer for managers).
